High Five For Friday

Can I get an AMEN for Friday! Seriously though, I am so happy it's Friday. It's just been one of those weeks.

1. Jax felt the need to play a little dress up with Momma's shoes. Those tan lines kill me, way to funny.
2. A calm moment at the doctor's office in between blood and hemoglobin test. It was a rough day for him. But good news is everything came perfectly normal.
3. A little birthday cake with sprinkles for my birthday treat at work, delish!
4. No birthday is complete without and ice cold beer, cheers to me and my last year in my 20s.
5. It's that weekend, me and a group of friends and family are running the Dirty Girl again this year and I couldn't be more excited.

So here's to Friday and looking forward to a birthday weekend with friends and family!

Thirsty

Oh, how I have missed you my lovelies and I apologize for my absence.
The little man needed some medical attention and I have debated whether or not to share. Well I have decided to, I thought what better way than blogland for support, thoughts and suggestions.

So over the past few weeks Jax fluid intake has increased to 90-120 ounces a day, which is close to a gallon. With the help of the wonderful ladies at daycare we decided to monitor it, making sure it wasn't a fluke. Well nothing has really changed so I decided to call the doctor.

The only other thing that has changed with him is he has been falling asleep at meal time. So off to WedMD I went (never a good idea, you will always be diagnosed with a deadly disease with no cure.) Not really, but most of the time. These are both factors in Type 1 diabetes, so it had me concerned.

We got an appointment the next day. The thoughts from the doctor were the same and we did blood sugar test right away. No one likes it when there kid is sick, but we've been to the doctor for colds and ear infections and I know the normal route. But now we were in uncharted territory with a possibility of something that could affect the rest of his life. And of course waiting for the doctor to return with the results is like an eternity.

Ahh, relief his sugar levels were within the normal range. The doctor ordered an additional blood draw and a urine sample for additional testing just to be sure. Due to the high amounts of fluids it does concern him.

And the whole urine sample thing, well that went over like a lead balloon. Trying to take a sample from a potty training two year old. Not the easiest thing in the world. A doctor's office bathroom isn't very friendly. There isn't an Elmo potty that cheers when your done and you don't get a sticker. It's hard to explain that one. Needless to say we had to take a fun little to-go apparatus with us to collect the sample.

This is the part where I has for your help or suggestions, if this has happened to your little one or know other possibilities of what this could be.

Happy Humpday Lovelies!

High Five For Friday

Whoop, whoop it's Friday! And honestly what could be better than that? It's been a trying week but here are my highlights, these amazing moments made it all the more sweet.

1. Had my first ear of sweet corn, I know a little late but certainly worth the wait and it was delicious.
2. Took my bestie and the little man to National Night Out. Pretty amazing night of community and safety. Lots of freebies and a free dinner, umm yes please!
3. Jax had his first escalator ride this week at Target on the other side of town. You would have that I was a magician. The people behind us got a kick out of his reaction.
4. I fell like it was a week of firsts for Jax. I took him down to Lake Mendota at the Memorial Union Terrace. We watched the boats and the ducks and he loved every minute of it.
5. The Terrace is one of my fav places in the summertime, especially at sunset. It's just so peaceful.

Well that's it here from my end, TGIF and have a fab weekend lovelies!

When I am with you

To my son, my monkey, my flicker of light in the darkness:

Do you ever just have a bad day week? And you know that there is one thing that can change it and one thing alone that can make it better. Mine is my son!

Most days I think the best part of my day is the alone moment I get in the shower taking deep breaths of steam or the first sip of morning coffee. But there is that one moment that takes the cake, one moment in particular. The moment when I walk out to the daycare playground and I get that high pitched mommy from across the yard. The all out sprint (well as fast as his two year old legs can carry him) for my arms. I get that sunscreen smelling, sand coated, sidewalk chalk covered epic hug everyday.

Every sleepless night, temper tantrum and tears from owies, has made you the most amazing little boy that words don't even begin to express how much I love you.

You my darling little boy have taught me things I thought I already knew. That unconditional love that you show me on my worst days. The I didn't shower, brush my hair or teeth, sweatpants and oversize t-shirt kind of day and you still tell me in your mousy little voice, mommy pretty. You have not only showed me the little things in life but that they're important as well. For all of those tiny moments we have pasted together and call life I thank you.

I thank you for teaching me to have patience, savor every moment no matter how small and to love bigger that I every imagined. I thank you for choosing me to be your mom.

I love you not only for what you are but for what I am with you.

Love, one proud momma!

p.s. sorry for being so mushy today, it has just been a trying week.

Better Than Anything

It's one of my favorite days at work, pot luck day! Mainly for two reasons, one I don't have to pack a lunch and two I get to make bad for you tasty treats and it's acceptable.
This go around I decided to make Better Than Anything Cake. It delicious and I haven't had it in awhile.

Grab your ingredients lovelies because things are about to get tasty.
- 1 box of Devil's Food Cake Mix + ingredients on box (eggs, oil & water)
- 1 (14 ounce can) Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 1 (12 ounce jar) Caramel topping
- 8 ounces of Cool Whip
- 3/4 cup Milk Chocolate Heath Toffee Bits

Make Devil's Food Cake following the box directions. While still warm poke holes with fork/knife.

Continue until you have done that to the entire surface of the cake.

Then drizzle caramel over the top of the cake.

I use about 3/4 of the jar to cover the cake and the rest will be used as additional topping.

Then just as the caramel topping repeat the same with the sweetened condensed milk.

Let the caramel topping and sweetened condensed milk soak in and cake to cool to room temperature
Then coat the top with Cool Whip.

Use the remaining amount of caramel topping to drizzle on top.

Then sprinkle you toffee bits on top of that. I used more than 3/4 cup as I had left over toffee bits from another recipe and just finished off the bag.

And BOOM it's Yummo!(a little cooking humor is you will) Cue the crickets because that wasn't funny.

Happy Friday Eve, Lovelies!
